A SOLEMN OPENING CEREMONY OF THE EXHIBITION DEDICATED TO THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST BAKU TURKOLOGICAL CONGRESS WAS HELD IN ALMATY
On May 22, 2026, a solemn opening ceremony of the thematic exhibition titled “1926–2026: The 100th Anniversary of the First Baku Turkological Congress” was held at the National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty. The exhibition was jointly organized by the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and the National Central Museum of Kazakhstan.
The exhibition, dedicated to the anniversary of the First Baku Turkological Congress — one of the most significant historical events in the spiritual and cultural life of the Turkic world in the early twentieth century — will remain open to visitors for one month.
The exhibition features rare documents, official protocols, reports, periodical press materials, and photographs preserved in the collections of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan and the Central State Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan. These materials not only reflect the scientific and ideological significance of the Congress, but also shed light on the cultural revival of the Turkic peoples during the 1920s and 1930s.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, Professor Aktoty Raimkulova, particularly emphasized the historical importance of the Congress. According to the Head of the Foundation, this historic gathering, which brought together thinkers and intellectuals of the brotherly Turkic peoples, became a landmark event that paved the way for an in-depth study of shared history and for defining strategic directions for the future.
Professor A. Raimkulova noted that the presented exhibition is aimed not only at preserving the memory of past events, but also serves as an important cultural mission toward a deeper understanding of the common spiritual roots of the Turkic world and the transmission of this heritage to future generations. The President of the Foundation stressed that only through respect for the past can one move confidently into the future.
It was also noted that, in accordance with the instruction adopted during the 12th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States, held on October 7, 2025, in Gabala, on the occasion of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the First Baku Turkological Congress, the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation has been successfully implementing a series of international projects.
It should be emphasized that this exhibition is being held within the framework of one of these successful initiatives — the International Turkological Conference titled “The Legacy of the First Baku Turkological Congress and the Turkic World in the 21st Century".
