PRESIDENT OF THE TURKIC CULTURE AND HERITAGE FOUNDATION AKTOTY RAIMKULOVA PARTICIPATES IN “SUSTAINABLE FASHION” EVENT AS PART OF BAKU CLIMATE ACTION WEEK

On September 8, 2026, a roundtable and fashion show on the theme of “Sustainable Fashion” were held as part of Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2026).

The event was attended by President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, Professor Aktoty Raimkulova, as well as state and public figures of Azerbaijan, representatives of the fashion industry from Azerbaijan and Europe, international experts, and designers.

The main objective of the event was to promote the principles of sustainable development in the fashion industry, discuss challenges related to climate change, and present creative and innovative solutions developed by designers in this field.

Opening the roundtable, Member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, COP29 High-Level Climate Champion and Head of the BCAW Project Nigar Arpadarai noted that the event aimed not only to discuss existing challenges in the fashion industry, but also to showcase designers’ perspectives on climate change and the sustainable solutions they propose.

Speaking as an official speaker, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, Professor Aktoty Raimkulova, highlighted the particular importance of environmental protection and sustainable design for her.

“The cultural heritage of Turkic civilization was shaped on the basis of respect for nature and environmental values. It is important for me to hear the valuable ideas being voiced here today,” emphasized Professor Aktoty Raimkulova.

The President of the Foundation cited the traditional art of “Gurama” practiced by Turkic peoples as an example, noting that transforming various fabric remnants and surplus materials into new works of art has been a centuries-old tradition. According to her, this tradition resonates with the modern “zero waste” approach and demonstrates that Turkic cultural heritage is gaining renewed significance in the context of contemporary environmental challenges.

Following the roundtable, the “Sustainable Fashion Show” was held, where the themes of sustainability, nature, and climate were creatively reflected through various design solutions.
