THE TURKIC CULTURE AND HERITAGE FOUNDATION AT THE REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMIT IN ASTANA: CULTURE IN DIALOGUE WITH ECOLOGY
On April 22, 2026, the Regional Environmental Summit 2026 (RES 2026) commenced its work in Astana.
The opening ceremony of the summit began with a welcoming address by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, His Excellency Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The president of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, Professor Aktoty Raimkulova, attended the opening of this significant regional environmental platform as an official guest. The Foundation’s presence at this platform serves as a compelling testament to the deep and intrinsic connection between the rich, centuries-old cultural heritage of Turkic peoples and the philosophy of environmental stewardship, reflecting the principles of harmony, sustainability, and responsibility toward future generations.
Over the course of the three-day summit, key topics of discussion include climate investment, biodiversity conservation, and regional environmental security.
At the opening ceremony, Heads of State of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Tajikistan, Mongolia, and Georgia, as well as official representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Serbia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and other regional countries delivered remarks. In addition, representatives of various UN agencies (UNEP, UNESCO, FAO, UNDP), the European Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as leaders and experts from leading financial institutions such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank are participating in the event.
This large-scale event, attended by numerous delegations, will conclude on April 24 with discussions on the application of digital environmental solutions and artificial intelligence technologies.
It is also worth noting that within the framework of the summit, the President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, Professor Aktoty Raimkulova, is expected to deliver a speech at a panel session titled “Regional Cooperation for Biodiversity Conservation in Central Asia: From Global Commitments to Joint Action”.
