“KHAGANI NIGHT” DEDICATED TO THE 900TH ANNIVERSARY OF KHAGANI SHIRVANI HELD IN BAKU

On 29 September 2026, the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, held an artistic and musical event entitled “Khagani Night” at the International Mugham Center, dedicated to the 900th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Khagani Shirvani.

The event was organized in accordance with the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev, on the celebration of the 900th anniversary of Khagani Shirvani.

Speaking at the opening of the event, president of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, Professor Aktoty Raimkulova, noted that the works of Khagani Shirvani have held a special place in the spiritual world of the Turkic peoples for centuries. Referring to the Foundation’s extensive publishing activities, Professor Aktoty Raimkulova emphasized that the organization publishes the literary heritage of prominent classics of the Turkic world in various languages, making it accessible to a broad readership, while the projects implemented in this field contribute to the preservation and promotion of the shared cultural heritage.

The event was moderated by Farid Huseyn, Chairman of the Youth Council of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union. President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences academician Isa Habibbayli and Member of the Milli Majlis Hikmat Babaoghlu also addressed the event, sharing their views on the great poet’s rich literary legacy and commending the Foundation’s initiatives in this field.

As part of the event, a collection of plays dedicated to Khagani Shirvani was presented, along with an artistic programme reflecting the poet’s life and creative legacy. The programme featured stage performances depicting various periods of Khagani Shirvani’s life, beginning with his childhood and youth, as well as musical works composed to his poetry and performed for the first time.

The artistic programme featured Jahangir Jahangirov’s “Nazanin”, Tofig Guliyev’s “Bakhtavar oldun”, and Bahram Nasibov’s “Gozal Nazanin”, as well as the mini-performance “Khagani’s Childhood” by Children and Youth Development Center No. 3, “Khagani’s Ghazal Dialogues”, recitations from the works of Khagani and Muhammad Fuzuli, and performances of Khagani’s ghazals accompanied by mugham.

The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan, heads of international organizations, prominent figures in culture and the arts, literary scholars, academics, as well as representatives of the media.
