INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF FOLK MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS DEDICATED TO THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF NURGISA TLENDIYEV OPENS AT UNESCO HEADQUARTERS IN PARIS

On June 13, 2025, a solemn opening ceremony of the international exhibition of folk musical instruments “Roots of Inspiration: The Legacy of Nurgisa Tlendiyev” took place at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. The event is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Kazakh composer and conductor. This anniversary has been included in UNESCO’s list of anniversaries of historic significance.
The event was organized by the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan to UNESCO, the Akimat (City Administration) of Almaty, and the Association of Museums of Almaty, with the active support of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation.
Welcoming speeches were delivered by Mr. Askar Abdrakhmanov, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Kazakhstan to UNESCO; Mr. Ernesto Ottone, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture; Mrs. Aktoty Raimkulova, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation; and the honorary guest of the event, Mrs. Dinara Tlendiyeva, daughter of the composer and Principal Conductor of the State Academic Folklore and Ethnographic Orchestra “Otyrar Sazy".
In her speech, Mrs. Aktoty Raimkulova emphasized the invaluable contribution of Nurgisa Tlendiyev to the development not only of Kazakh, but also of the entire Turkic folk music tradition on the international stage. She also praised the high level of organization of the exhibition and its significant role in preserving and promoting the musical heritage of the Turkic world.
The exhibition features a display of traditional musical instruments of Turkic peoples from the collection of the Ykhlas Museum of Kazakh Folk Musical Instruments.
The event was accompanied by a concert program. Performances were given by Erkin Kudaybergenov, a representative of the Nurgisa Tlendiyev Memorial Museum (dombyra); Serik Nurmoldaev, soloist of the folklore and ethnographic ensemble “Turan”, an expert-researcher of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation (sybyzgy, shankobyz, saz syrnai).
