President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Mrs. Aktoty Raimkulova Attended the Performance “Akyrky Kat” (“The Last Letter”)
Bishkek, May 13, 2025 — As part of the working visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Mrs. Aktoty Raimkulova attended the theatrical performance “Akyrky Kat” (“The Last Letter”), staged at the T. Abdymomunov Kyrgyz National Academic Drama Theater.
The performance “Akyrky Kat” is based on real events from the tragic era of the 1930s and portrays the repressions endured by the Kyrgyz people. At the center of the narrative is the prominent statesman Torokul Aitmatov — the father of the great writer Chinghiz Aitmatov. Through the lens of Nagima Aitmatova, Torokul’s wife, the play conveys the drama, pain, resilience, and unwavering strength of the women of that era. It is a story of love, devotion, motherhood, loss, and remarkable inner fortitude.
Mrs. Aktoty Raimkulova praised the artistic level of the production and expressed deep appreciation to the director, cast, and the entire creative team of the theater for their powerful and emotionally rich portrayal of a tragic chapter in Kyrgyz history.
“Akyrky Kat is not just a theatrical work. It is a poignant reminder of the cost of freedom, of the courage and resilience of a people who, despite severe trials, managed to preserve their identity and culture. Such projects are especially important for strengthening cultural ties among Turkic countries,” Mrs. Raimkulova noted.
The leading role of Nagima was performed by Gulayim Kanimetova, People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic and laureate of the Toktogul State Prize, who this year celebrates her 75th birthday and 60th anniversary of creative activity.
The play was written by People’s Writer of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Kairat Imanaliev.
