THE TURKIC CULTURE AND HERITAGE FOUNDATION PARTICIPATED IN THE 5TH CONFERENCE OF THE PARLIAMENTARY NETWORK OF THE NON-ALIGNED MOVEMENT IN ISTANBUL

On April 15, 2026, the 5th Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement was held in Istanbul, Türkiye. The conference brought together approximately 130 representatives from nearly 50 countries and international organizations. The event was dedicated to the theme “The Role of Parliaments in Ensuring Climate-Resilient Urbanization in the Non-Aligned Movement Region".

The conference was officially opened with a keynote address by H.E. Mrs. Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Within the framework of the conference, Mr. Nuri Aksu, Project Manager of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, delivered a speech. In his presentation on “The Role of Parliaments in Sustainable and Balanced Urbanization", he emphasized the strategic importance of safeguarding cultural heritage for the future of cities.

Particular attention was paid to combating the illicit trafficking of cultural property, strengthening scientific infrastructure, and the need to harmonize legal frameworks among Turkic states.

He noted that initiatives implemented in these areas contribute to deepening regional cooperation, establishing common standards, and achieving tangible outcomes.

During the event, decisions were also adopted on the establishment of the headquarters of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku, as well as on granting observer status to the Arab Parliament within the Network.
