IN THE ULYTAU REGION INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC-PRACTICAL CONFERENCE ON THE THEME “JOCHI KHAN AND THE GOLDEN HORDE: HISTORY, HERITAGE AND CIVILIZATION OF THE GREAT STEPPE” WAS HELD

On September 27–28, 2025, in the Ulytau region, the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and the Akimat of the Ulytau region of the Republic of Kazakhstan jointly organized the International Scientific-Practical Conference on the theme “Jochi Khan and the Golden Horde: History, Heritage and Civilization of the Great Steppe.”

The main objective of the event was to conduct a comprehensive scientific study of the legacy of Jochi Khan and the history of the Golden Horde, as well as to carry out in-depth research in the fields of history, restoration, folklore, musicology and art studies. Special attention was given to the exploration of common Turkic values within the culture of the Ulytau region and their recognition as the spiritual heritage of the entire Turkic civilization.

The conference gathered distinguished scholars and experts from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan and Tatarstan. The discussions were held on the topics: “Statehood and Historical-Cultural Processes during the Jochi Ulus and Golden Horde Periods” and “Musical and Folklore Heritage and Spiritual Values of the Turkic World in the 12th–14th Centuries. Historical and Cultural Legacy of the Kuyshi-Composer Ketbuka Khan.”

At the plenary session, speeches were delivered by President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, Ms. Aktoty Raimkulova, Akim of the Ulytau region, Mr. Dastan Ryspekov, and Deputy Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Maksat Argyngbekov. In her address, Ms. Raimkulova emphasized the importance of profound scientific research into the heritage of Jochi Khan and the history of the Golden Horde, as well as the identification of common Turkic values rooted in the lands of Ulytau for the present day.

A rich cultural program also accompanied the conference. The renowned cultural ambassador of the Turkic World, the ensemble “TURAN” presented a concert program entitled “TAMYR,” introducing the audience to over 40 national musical instruments of Turkic peoples and their musical heritage. In addition, an excursion was organized to the historical and cultural monuments of the Ulytau region, during which participants visited the mausoleums of Jochi Khan, Alash Khan and Dombaul, becoming acquainted with the region’s rich history and cultural legacy.
